VanHorn’s Western and Antique Auto Museum is a delightful surprise.

Many of you have probably done this, you’re heading to Bowman or to Baker and you drive right by VanHorn’s Western and Antique Auto Museum in Marmarth.  I know I have many times and each time I say to myself, self, you need o stop someday.   After all, aren’t we supposed to take time to enjoy the little things.

I decided to call first to see if the owner, JD VanHorn, would possibly be around so I could meet him and take some pictures. In doing so, I found out that he knew my dad and knew many of the neighbors we had along the West River Road between Bullion Butte and Medora.  JD agreed to meet with me so off I went with  camera in hand.  We had a great visit and he gave me a grand tour. I could have stayed there for hours listening to him talk about the history of the classic cars, stage coaches and other items on display.  Thank you JD, for taking time to come over and show me around.  I’ll be back for another visit.

Construction is also underway to add another building to the museum which will be used to display a large collection of Western items.

The pictures you see here are just a hint of what you’ll find if you take the time to stop by.

VanHorn’s Western and Antique Auto Museum is open daily until September 7th.
