Cellphone Tower Activated after 10 Years!

Cellphone service in the Golva area, unreliable and often non-existent, received a beacon of hope in 2013 when AT&T built a tower south of town. Residents saw the tower as the end of their cellphone service woes. However, nothing changed.  According to the land owner, the tower was sold to a company called American Tower in 2014.  American Tower (ATC) is an American real estate investment trust which owns and operates wireless and broadcast communications in several countries.  ATC then leases tower space to tenants.  The tower has been silent since 2013, its flashing lights the only sign it was powered, until November of 2023 when Southwest Dakota Communications installed Verizon 5G network service.  After ten years, the wait was over.
