EKALAKA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) plans to replace a culvert south of Ekalaka on Montana Highway 323 (MT 323). The culvert is located in Catamount Creek just south of the intersection with Secondary 328, commonly known as Tie Creek Road, at mile marker 23.0.This is an exigency project that is being developed to replace a large metal culvert in poor condition with a concrete culvert. Prior to construction, MT 323 will be temporarily widened with a gravel surface to facilitate replacement.
The project is expected to be constructed in late fall of 2026, depending on completion of all project development activities and the contractor’s ability to secure the materials prior to winter shutdown. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project.
