A Perfect Circle has released “Starless,” a new standalone single that marks the band’s first new music since 2024’s “Kindred” as the group begins its first U.K. and European tour in eight years. The song reunites vocalist Maynard James Keenan and guitarist-songwriter Billy Howerdel, with longtime collaborator Josh Freese handling drums.
“Starless” is available digitally as a single and is also being issued as a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl release featuring the band’s crescent logo etched on the B-side. Written earlier this year and recorded at Howerdel’s Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, California, “Starless” was produced by Howerdel and mixed by Matty Green, whose previous credits include work with U2, Florence + the Machine and TV on the Radio. The track blends heavy guitar-driven passages with more atmospheric and melodic sections, continuing the dynamic sound that has defined much of the band’s catalog.
The release comes just as A Perfect Circle launched their summer run, beginning with two sold-out shows at London’s O2 Academy Brixton before continuing across Europe with headline dates and appearances at major festivals including Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Rock Werchter, NOS Alive and Mad Cool.
“Absolutely chuffed to debut this new track on stage in the U.K.,” Keenan said. “Of course I’m excited to release the recordings but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live.” Howerdel said the song came together more quickly than many of the band’s previous recordings. “Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years. But once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along.”
