ExxonMobil announced Tuesday, November 2nd, that it had acquired Denbury Inc. in an all-stock transaction valued at $4.9 billion.
“This transaction is a major step forward in the profitable growth of our Low Carbon Solutions business,” Chairman and CEO Darren Woods said. “Our expertise, combined with Denbury’s talent and CO2 pipeline network, expands our low-carbon leadership and best positions us to meet the decarbonization needs of industrial customers while also reducing emissions in our own operations.”
Denbury acquired Encore Acquisition Company in October of 2009, which allowed Denbury to expand into the Rocky Mountain region- including the Cedar Creek Anticline which stretches through Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Since then, the company has expanded into other fields in the same region through company acquisitions, and remains a presence in Fallon County.
We have reached out to contacts at both ExxonMobil and Denbury to inquiry about whether there are any anticipated changes to Denbury operations in Fallon County now that the acquisition and merger has been reported as completed, but have yet to hear back.
Denbury’s job site has listed openings in Baker, MT, as recently as November 10th.
We will update this story with any further information we receive.
